Cognitive Testing & Brain Mapping in Memphis, TN

What is BrainView Cognitive Testing

Brainview utilizes electroencephalogram (EEG) activity of the brain, electrocardiogram activity (ECG), auditory and visual processing speed (evoked potentials), and a self-report neuropsychological survey to assess your brain function in real-time.

This test is very sensitive to memory and cognitive functions that we rely on daily and can measure impairments objectively. The test also provides information on stress-related conditions. The test is non-invasive, painless, and safe.

During this time, you will wear an EEG cap to measure the electrical activity in your brain. You will also wear a device to measure your pulse and have a recording of the electrical activity in the heart. Results of the study may offer understanding and confirmation for what you have been feeling and going through.

Who Can Take the Test?

BrainView testing is appropriate for anyone who wants a “baseline” of his or her brain function and performance.  Brainview can help with the assessment of memory loss, cognitive impairment, insomnia, depression, anxiety, attentional disorders, and head concussion.

The results of the study will help guide your physician in creating a personalized care plan in conjunction with an in-office examination, a review of your medical history, and a workup of your symptoms. Brainview testing may also be used to track your brain’s response to treatment or its performance over time.

What to Expect

STEP 1
Booking Your Appointment

Our office will verify your benefits with your insurance provider to confirm your policy benefits, deductible, and out-of-pocket expenses.

STEP 2
Assessment Day

We ask that you refrain from taking any stimulants the day before the exam. All other prescription drugs can be taken as directed on a regular basis.

Additionally, we ask that you wear relaxed clothing and have clean hair. To and from your appointment, you may drive. Please be aware that, as part of the setup, we utilize a water-soluble gel that may be easily removed from your scalp and hair.

A technician will accompany you back to one of our testing rooms after you arrive and check in at the front desk so that setup and instructions can start. Your head will be covered with a fitting cap, and the scalp will be covered in a thin layer of saline solution. Following that, the technician will attach a pulse oximeter and three EKG wires. You will be sitting in front of a computer screen and be given step-by-step instructions by the technician.
STEP 3
Review of Results
As you work through various computer tasks, the evaluation will monitor your brain activity for roughly 30 minutes.

Your technician will remove the cap once these are finished and give you a tool to help you wash the gel out of your hair.

After that, the technician will direct you to the front desk so you can make an appointment to review the test results with your provider.  A copy of your study results will be provided to you after your follow-up consultation.
